3 Simple Ways To Make Affiliate Commissions Without Having To Sell

Daily Affiliate Tasks

If you have a blog, write for a blog or would like to start a blog, you need to know all about affiliate marketing.  It’s a great way to make money online and if you’re not doing it, and doing it right, then you’re leaving money on the table.

My good friend and business coach, Susanne Myers, has affiliate marketing down to a science.  She is so successful at affiliate marketing that she was able to quit her full time job and bring her husband home.  You may know her best as the Hillbilly Housewife.

The thing most of us struggle with when we first start to run an online business is that we’re not comfortable selling. The good news is that you don’t have to go out there and make a hard sale, practically shoving a product down your reader’s throat. There are some subtle strategies you can use that actually work a lot better. Here are three of them that I’m currently using. Give them a try and see if you don’t start making some affiliate sales while giving your readers exactly what they are looking for.

1) Contextual Links
One of the simplest things to do is to add links to affiliate products throughout your content. For example, if I mention the popular autoresponder service Aweber, I will link to my affiliate link for this service. Similarly, if you’re writing about potty training tips, you may link to a potty training guide.
Just make sure that your hyperlinks are in blue and underlined to make it easy for your readers to recognize them as such. Including one or two links into most pieces of your online content can lead to quite a few affiliate commissions over time.

2) Free Trials Or Samples
Find some free trial offers or samples and mention them on your blog, website or on social media. Your audience will love getting something for free and should they decide to buy the paid product or continue a membership, you will get an affiliate commission.
The same holds true for very low cost trials like $1 for the first month to join something. Give it a try. It’ll be easy to make the offer to your readers and you won’t feel like selling.

3) Product Reviews
Last but not least, let’s talk about my personal favorite – product reviews. Find a product or service that you are currently using that has an affiliate program. Write a simple review that introduces the product, explains what it does and highlights the features and benefits. Tell your readers what you like about it and what you don’t like about it. Then let them know where they can order the product and use your affiliate link. That’s all there’s to it.

People actively search for reviews online all day long which makes it easy to get some free search engine traffic for those product reviews. Once they land on your site they are very close to make a buying decision and may just decide to click through your link and buy. It’s a great way to make a sale without having to do any hard selling.

All About Affiliate Programs – Part 2

Now that you know what an affiliate program is all about, let’s talk about starting one that will benefit you as a seller or owner of a product. I started two affiliate programs for my products. One program is for my eBook, “The Stay-at-Home Mom’s Guide to Successful eBay Selling.” The other is for my membership group, The eBay Coach VIP Library. Participants who make a sale for either of these items receive a $4 commission. Both programs were set up through Payloadz in about 2 hours, and it is free to start an affiliate program with Payloadz. When a participant makes a sale thru a visitor clicking the link, her payment is automatically transferred via Paypal. The payments are automated.

Now you’re thinking, why would I want to go to all the trouble to set up an affiliate program, just to share the profit with other people? I’ve got two words for you – FREE MARKETING. An affiliate program encourages participants to add your link or button to their website- especially if they can participate for free with no sign up costs. With each person who signs up for your affiliate program, you are extending your reach to new potential customers that you would not otherwise have access to. I see my affiliate programs pop up all the time on websites, blogs, and eBay About Me pages. Other people are spreading the word about my products for free. What could be easier? Take advantage of the viral nature of the internet by starting or participating in affiliate programs.

Even if the affiliates don’t make many sales, you are getting your product in front of many more visitors than you could buy driving that same traffic to your blog or website yourself. Also, consider the repetition factor. Let’s say I have 100 people participating in my eBook affiliate program. Visitors may see my button in multiple places and begin to recognize it. Advertising wisdom states that a consumer must see an ad for a product 13 times before taking action. Having an affiliate program gives you brand identity, and recognition. Finally, let’s say those 100 participants in my affiliate program refer others to join. I can exponentially increase my reach as the program grows, and grows, and grows over time.

Do you participate in any affiliate programs, and if so, how are they working for you? Do you see any payouts?

All About Affiliate Programs – Part 1

You’ve probably heard the term “affiliate programs” but maybe you aren’t sure exactly what they are, how they work, how to start your own, or why you should have one. This article will help you understand more about affiliate programs.

An affiliate program is an arrangement where someone other than the owner or creator of a product sells a product on her website or blog, for a commission. Visit most any blog and you will see buttons and links to different products, membership groups, and eBooks. More than likely, the blog owner is participating in more than one affiliate program. Most affiliate programs are free to join. You simply sign up through the person who sells the product, and place a button or link on your website or blog. You can write blog posts and articles and include the link to the affiliate program or you can include the link in your signature on your emails, forums, and groups. Or, you can just email someone the link to when they inquire about a product or service.

Affiliate programs are an easy way to earn passive income, but you must continue to put your links in front of people, or drive traffic to your site to get the clicks. Don’t expect to put a button on your site and watch the money come rolling in. But, the good news is that you are probably doing this anyway for other reasons such as Google Adsense, or to sell your own product. You must constantly promote an affiliate program to make sales.

One of the easiest ways to make affiliate sales is through article marketing. You can go to sites like eZine or GoArticles, write an informative article with content related to the affiliate program, and then include the link. If you get into the habit of submitting an article or two a week, you will be building income producing links that last forever. It takes time to build these links, but the rewards can be great.

The best strategy for success with affiliate programs is to add those that relate or correspond with your website or blog. For example, let’s say Melanie sells handmade, personalized baby blankets on her website. She also has a blog about baby and infant care. Melanie will want to participate in affiliate programs that relate to babies, mothers, child care, birthing, nursing, etc. She might choose an affiliate program for nursing products, organic baby food, eBooks about infant care, or other types of personalized baby items like bibs or pacifiers. Melanie probably won’t make many sales by participating in an affiliate program for accounting software. The visitors on her sites don’t have accounting on their minds when reading her material and looking at her images.
