I got a great tip from someone once. The basics for casserole creation, you could say. This tip has helped me create meals from almost empty cupboards and has resulted in some great recipes as well. Here it is:
A basic casserole contains meat, filler[potato, pasta, rice], veggies, soup and cheese.
Almost any combination of the above, in layers, makes a great one dish dinner.
Some examples of casseroles I have made:
cubed leftover ham, cooked brocolli, cooked macoroni, cream of brocolli soup, cheese
ground beef, corn, spagetti noodles, tomato soup, cheese
cubed pork chops, peas, rice, mushroom soup, cheese
leftover turkey bits, potatoes, mixed veggies, tomato soup, cheese
Optional stuff you can add if you have them:
onion, peppers, seasonings, tomatos, mushrooms, etc.
Tip: pour soup over casserole after it is layered, the top wih cheese. All ingredients should be precooked, so it only needs togo into the oven for 20 minutes or so [at 350]
