First off, I loved the title of this book. What’s not to love about a book called “If Your Kid Eats This Book, Everything Will Still Be Okay.”
I think every new mom has been there. Your child does… something. And you RUSH them into the emergency room. Only to have the doctor shake their head, smile condescendingly and ask “First child?” That’s when I start looking for the exit. I didn’t realize that a newborn breathed like that. And seriously, my son’s leg was PURPLE when I brought him in here (and it’s perfectly fine now).
No, this is not a book that I would sit down and read from cover to cover. But I gave it the mom test. My kids get sick or hurt on a fairly regular basis. So the first I’d do is check the book. My daughter has a stye (page 83 tells me there’s nothing to worry about and a warm compress should help). How about my son’s refusal to potty train? Chapter 6 has some nice tips and we’re starting to see small steps of progress there. There’s even a section called “Toddler Weirdness.” Been there, seen that.
This is a nice reference book to have on hand for those moments when you’re torn between driving like a mad woman to the hospital or toughing it out at home. There’s a lot to be said for a mother’s instinct, but sometimes you’re just not sure. And there’s a nice section about those times when you do end up having to go the emergency room. This book covers quite a range of topics and it’s one I’m going to keep on my shelf for quite awhile.
