A Giving Thanks Thanksgiving Tradition

You might not realize this, but in Canada Thanksgiving is already long past. We celebrate Thanksgiving early in October! One of my favorite parts of the Thanksgiving season is sharing thankfulness with my children. It’s such a great opportunity to teach them to be thankful for everything – big and small, and to count our blessings!

Now that my children are all in school, we try to involve them in this as well, but it’s much easier if we turn it into a game to get them actively involved. I LOVE this Thanksfulness tree from Oriental Trading! Rather then just going around the table saying what we’re thankful for, we write them on the leaves and then each person takes turns putting them on the tree to create our own family thankfulness tree!

The kids LOVE it, it keeps them actively involved and gives us an opportunity to teach them about being thankful as well. Next year, I would like to try this at our extended family gathering. What a wonderful tradition, to see all of the blessings and joys everyone is thankful for each year!

If this is something you’d like to try, there are also many other versions – pumpkins, cornacopia, turkeys, etc. There is also a tree centerpeice that would be a lot of fun to, and easier to keep for displaying at future gatherings as well.

  1. That is so cool! I’m going to have to consider getting that for our family.

I’m stopping by to let you know that I’m hosting the “Holiday Cooking, Blogger Style” recipe exchange again this year, coming up this Friday. I hope you can join me and if you’re willing to help me spread the news, I’m offering a giveaway as well!
