I have been emailing some of my Mom groups asking for ideas and tips for saving money this Christmas and I wanted to share the best of them with you. Sylvia of Merpire Designs contributed these ideas:
Tip 1: Keep all your cards from the year before and use them to make your own cards this year… you can cut them up and re-use them on a newly designed card! Its also a great thing to do with kids!
Tip 2: If you have younger children, and want to give something to the kids at school/daycare… make your own crayons for them (you get to use up all the broken ones, and the crumbs at the bottom of the crayon jar!)… its fun to do with your child, and an extremely cost effective gift that is unique.
Tip 3: Organize a gift exchange potluck with a group of friends instead of buying one gift for each friend, everyone gets 1 gift instead, and you save a lot of money!
Tip 4: Buy solid colour wrapping paper (a nice white is always good! or even a lime green!) that can be used for every occasion, instead of printed ones that can only be used for that 1 occasion. You can always add a bow, gift tag or stamp on the wrapping paper to make it applicable to the season!
Tip 5: Make your own truffles for Christmas! They are a lot cheaper than the ones that you buy, and I’m sure that everyone will love that you did it yourself!
