I LOVE ribbon! I have used the same Christmas decor for years and two years ago I wanted an update but we didn’t have much money to spend. So – I picked up to $7 packs of silver christmas balls from Walmart and a $10 silver star topper. Then I searched eBay for bulk sets of green and red gingham ribbon. I used the ribbon that I found to tie the Christmas balls to the tree with a bow, and then used leftover ribbon to tie bows in spaces that needed a little fill. Over all, it cost me less then $40 and I completely redid my tree. I got a ton of compliments as well!
I love Christmas decorating and this year I would like to try some new things. Of course, the Better Homes & Garden’s Easy Holiday Decorating with Ribbon headline caught my eye! Check out these ideas:

1. The Ribbon & Ornament Tree! I am totally doing this! What a fun, simple way to dress up a doorway without spending a fortune. My problem is deciding where to do it, lol. It would work on the entrance from the hall to the living room, the hall to the kitchen or the kitchen to the dining room. Maybe I’ll do all three……
2. Photo Ornaments! This idea appeals to so many of my loves – ribbon, photos, scrapbooking AND budget friendliness lol. The idea is to use photos of past Christmas memories, mount them on some christmas themed scrapbooking papers, add some ribbon to hang it and voila! I’d like to start this as an ongoing project and do one or two key photos from each of our ten Christmases as a family and then add to it each year. I would hang them all together on the wall behind the dining room table.
3. Ribbon Votives – This is a cute and simple way to dress up your table for a Christmas dinner party. Simply collect your glass votive holders and hot glue some spare pieces of Christmas ribbon to them. Later you can just remove the hot glue and put your votive holders away for future use.
4. Ribbon Canvas Art - I love this idea so much I am thinking about doing it permanently. The nice thing about canvas boards is that they are cheap. You can paint them in a neutral color that matches your decor, and then decorate with ribbons to match the season. Since my walls are beige with white trim, I would leave the boards white and decorate with ribbons to match the current season or holiday.
Do you love it? As I get started on these, I will make sure to post my final projects but in the meantime, visit Better Homes and Gardens for all 19 of their Easy Holiday Decorating with Ribbon Ideas!

You proved that affordable doesn’t mean it looks “cheap”. I especially love the canvas art, and agree it would make a great year-round piece. My philosophy is that decorating with items you already own is fun, budget-friendly, AND STYLISH. If you’d like more simple, affordable and festive decorating ideas that the whole family can get involved with this holiday season, I’d love to share my ideas: http://floors-walls-ceilings.blogspot.com.
