Everyone loves Twitter. Ok, maybe not everyone, but most people have at least heard of it by now. I’m an avid Tweeter (are you following me yet?) and I stumbled across Twitter Power by Joel Comm (most likely because of a tweet from someone). Like most other people, I’m always curious as to how people get followers, use Twitter as a marketing tool and basically network with thousands of other users in 140 characters or less.
Twitter Power is a book for Twitter “newbies.” I’ll be honest, I didn’t get too much out of the first half of the book since it mostly covers how to set up an account, how to Tweet and many of the other basics you have to get acclimated to when you start your account.
The chapter I enjoyed most was the one entitled “The Magic of Connecting with Customers on Twitter.” As a consultant, I’ve enjoyed watching clients get accustomed to Twitter and then using it to reach existing and potential customers online. It’s amazing what a short message via a microblog can do and Joel does a nice job of capturing the potential of Twitter as a customer service tool.
Other chapters include a section of third party tools (which is a nice list), how to use Twitter to build your brand and how to use the tool as a team communication mechanism. The second half of the book was much more interesting for me personally since I’ve been on Twitter for awhile. But since I’m not an expert on it (yet) I really liked the extra insights that Joel provided. If you’re brand new (or just starting to think about joining) on Twitter, this book will help kick start your efforts (and help you understand why it’s so crazy popular in the first place).
