Cross Blog Conversation with Cee Tindall of Family Foodies

My friend, Cee, over at Family Foodies, and I have decided to participate in a cross-blog conversation (CBC).  On the Family Foodies site she asked me 2 questions.

I noticed you have a post on cooking from your freezer. Would you like to explain what that is?I have never heard of that before.

That’s a great question, Cee.  My good friend, Nicole Dean mentioned that she adores freezer cooking because it gives her the flexibility of having nutritious meals for her family while she runs her online business.  Well, who doesn’t want that? The freedom to NOT have to worry about what’s for dinner because you’ve already made it!  Brilliant

I did some research and found Susanne over at Hillbilly Housewife.  While I’ve been an avid reader of that site for years, I realized that she has information, recipes & and ebook on Freezer cooking so I started researching.

Long story short – freezer cooking is a once a week or once a month way of preparing meals so that you always have something ready to cook.  It’s cheaper and more nutritious than takeout or fast food and it wastes far less food than throwing something together at the last minute.

Cee, also asked a question about saving money on groceries.

We talk a lot about feeding our families on a tight budget here at Family Foodies. I see you have four children at home. Do you have any favorite tips or hints you’d like to share with us on how you save money on your grocery bill?

There are a ton of resources out there, Living on a Dime, www.stretcher.com, and again Hillbilly Housewife, to name a few.

My biggest tip to save money on my personal food budget is called Angel Food Ministries.  From their site “There are no restrictions, conditions or forms to fill out to purchase Angel Food. The food relief program is open to one and all. A box of food to feed a family of 4 for a week costs $30.

But, I have to say that my friend, Susanne of Hillbilly Housewife takes it a step further and offers menus & shopping lists to stretch that to a MONTH’s worth of meals. (See why I LOVE that site?)

Now, my question to Cee:

What other cool ideas have you found to help a mom provide nutritious, easy to prepare meals (breakfast & dinner are my downfall)? And can you share some recipes?

Look for the answer to appear at Family Foodies in the near future.
