My good friend, Lain, over at 30 Minute Martha, is going through 30 Days to an Organized Home for the next 30 days and today is DAY ONE!
Her “hot spot” is her kitchen counter – she’s even posted an picture of it, brave soul that she is.
So…..what’s your “hot spot”?
I’ll ‘fess up and tell you that I actually have 2 really bad spots that accumulate a ton of stuff everyday.
My first hot spot in the table in my entryway/foyer
See all the really neat stuff!? There would probably be more except that I cleaned it off yesterday.
Yep, there’s window cleaner, floor cleaner, a bunny, not one but 3 candles, junk mail and a sweet lil teddy sitting in the vase-like thingy.
And if you look really close you’ll see the top of a blue bin just under the table.
That’s actually one of two and they’re filled with toys to be gone thru & donated.
You want to know what the BEST thing about this hot spot is?
It’s right in front of the door!
Now, if that weren’t bad enough, I also have a really cluttered desk!
I mean, really cluttered!
And it doesn’t matter how many times a day I clean it off-
It is still the place where everyone puts their “stuff”.
This is my Desk – on this half of my desk I have:
- A desk organizer (ha!) for various pieces of mail, a comb, a Netflix dvd and some sharpies (I <3 Sharpies!)
- A CD case filled with accompaniment CD’s for church
- A full bottle of water
- 2 Atkins bar wrappers
- A few books
- Several magazines
- Some more mail, bandaids, neosporin, sunglasses and my notebook
- Along with some really cute Ball jars that I spray painted during one of my “I’m feeling crafty” days.
This is the rest of my Desk – on this half of my desk I have:
- My Nook (it’s charging) I <3 my Nook
- The Nook is sitting on top of a tart warmer (not turned on)
- A box of Atkins bars (Chocolate Peanut Butter)
- A stack of things that include magazines, 2 calendars, a notebook & my headset
- A cup of coffee and a stack of software on top of my harddrive
So, you see~ you’re not alone! But, now the hard part begins…I need to go clear off my hot spot(s)
Follow along with me & Lain and let’s get your home organized, too!
P.S. Don’t forget to share your hot spot!

I’m doing the Challenge! My hot spot is also my desk. Well, our built-in. We have a built-in desk nook in the hall and no matter what I do, it’s constantly a mess. I’ll try to blog about it later.
I love my NOOK too.
{{EEEKKK!!!}} I am so NOT sending you a picture of my desk/kitchen/entry/bedroom/bathroom… But, I give you credit for sharing yours!
ONE of my problems is the slow accumulation of really neat stuff. This is the kind of stuff one simply can’t discard. I have inherited lots of things that make me feel all warm and fuzzy. So, what I’ve been doing is TRYING to detach myself from any of my “store-bought” stuff to make room for my inherited stuff.
Of course, day-to-day life gets in the way and I keep accumulating papers, magazines, books, and all those things I love. Yes, my surfaces are a mess, my closets are a mess, my whole place is a mess.
But I LOVE MY STUFF! … and my Gramma’s stuff and my Mom’s stuff…
I talk to a lot of people in the Boomer years who have the same problem – inherited stuff they love. PLUS many of us are in the process of downsizing. My condo simply doesn’t have the room that my house used to have.
So… the solution might just be this 30 day project. I could focus on my clothes closet first since MOST of that stuff is store-bought (some is from my Mom and Gramma, though). It shouldn’t be too painful. THEN the paperwork! I have laundry baskets and assorted boxes FULL of paper stuff from previous attempts at “organizing.” {{sigh}}
Thanks Tracy and Lain for doing this project. I’m thinking about it…. really, I am…
My whole darn office is my hotspot! LOL! But I suppose I could start with my desk and my table …my desk, surprisingly, isn’t too bad. That’s only because I brought a table up here to serve as my second desk – and has just become a gathering ground for stuff I ‘just can’t process’ right now. Ack!
The radiator by the front door, usually. Gets piled up with the mail that needs to be gone thru. As well as the dining room table. Newspapers and more stuff. Paper clutter is my bane.
