When I was growing up, Spring break from school didn’t mean a big, expensive trip to a luxury resort. Today, many families find themselves in the same predicament – tight budgets and kids itching to do something fun.
With gas prices still on the rise, and prices in general climbing, we have been learning how to live frugal in every aspect of our lives. Our family can’t always find the money to drive across the country to visit amusement parks or seaside resorts. So, we have learned how to vacation close to home.
There are many reasons to explore your own corner of the world, besides saving money. Often, people who have lived in one town a long time will admit they rarely visit local points of interest. I know when my family and friends visit, it gives me an excuse to explore my own city. We all are guilty of not taking the opportunity to get to know our own area’s unique personality.
Start planning your next family “getaway” vacation by gathering information. Your local visitor’s center or Chamber of Commerce is a good place to begin. Also, dig into the racks full of brochures at your local restaurants and hotels or motels. These sources of information are not just for the tourists.
Sometimes, just a short drive away, you’ll discover a cave to explore, a hands-on museum, a water falls, a kid’s fishing day, a community festival, or any number of events that may be new to you. However, you may find the sweetest vacation time with your family by pitching a tent in your backyard, or at a nearby lake or river. The idea is to take a break, and many times a cozy corner in your yard becomes your most relaxing, and fun, get away of all.
Vacationing in your backyard with the kids can be educational and fun at the same time. Take a few minutes to learn how to identify all the flora and fauna around you. Click on this link to get all the information: What Kind of Tree is That?
Compare the cost, in both money and stress, of a long-distance trek across the country to a vacation in your own corner of the world. You may find the benefits of exploring your own backyard, town, or neighborhood very desirable indeed.
