The Evil Chore Witch

Now that our children are getting older (ages 9-5), we’ve started making a point of making sure they help out with chores each day. Our nine year old usually loads the washing machine and the dishwasher, our seven year old cleans up and sweeps the dining room and our 5 year old cleans the living room and front hallway.

They most definitely don’t enjoy doing chores, but we believe it’s important for them to learn to help out as much as they are able. Sometimes though, it’s kind of cute.

Right now – my 7 year old son and 5 year old daughter are doing their chores. Their sister is at a friend’s house. Today, my son was assigned the living room (tidy and vacumm) and the five year old has to clear and wipe the table. They love to chat and play while they “work” which is generally frustrating but today it was kind of cute.

My 5 year old yelled across the room to her brother: “Let’s pretend we’re in a story and I’m trapped in here by an evil witch who’s making me do tons of chores and you have to come save me.”

My son responds with “Okay, and I have to get this vacuumed fast so she doesn’t catch me before I can save you.”

And on they go, making up a story as they cleaned. It is adorable (and effective, since chores are being done in record time, lol).

Very cute.

Except for one small detail.

I gave them those chores.

So does that make me the evil witch?

Oh boy!
