Staying Healthy

We may think it is not easy to stay healthy but that is not true. With some simple adaptations, it is is easier to keep you and your family healthy even though everyone around you may be ill.

One of the easiest things to remember but often forgotten is simply washing your hands. This should be done every time you go to the rest room, take out the trash, pet your animal, change a diaper, preparing foods, shaking hands with strangers and eating to name a few. It is best to have paper towels handy for guests and children, so as to avoid using the same hand towel everytime. This will avoid the spreading of germs if someone who is ill happens to use the same towel.

Keeping your home clean is also very important in staying healthy. It is wise to get into a daily habit of cleaning your tub after every shower or bath. There are many non-toxic cleaners on the market that make it easy to keep your bathroom clean without harmful fumes. Also be sure to clean your bathrooms thoroughly weekly to avoid any germ build-up, especially if you have many family members using the same bathroom. Remember to wash your towels weekly or more and have a place to dry your towels after every use. Hanging outside to dry is a great idea since the heat of the sun will kill any lingering germs. But if you have allergies hanging towels outside may not be a good idea, since the pollen may trigger allergies.

Aside from keeping your home clean and washing your hands, it is extremely important to eat a well balanced meal to stay healthy. Along with a well balanced meal is regular exercise. A person who eats a balanced meal and exercises regularly is less likely to become ill, because their immune system is stronger.

It is important to reduce your stress. Stress is a major component to illness, so it is important not to dwell on your problems. If you dwell on your problems they tend to start controlling your life. When negative things control your life, your health is affected. It is important to avoid negative stress and try to be positive as much as possible.

It is also important to get regular eye exams and let’s not forget the regular dentist visits. Avoid over the counter medications as much as possible. You will be healthier with out these medications unless prescribed by your doctor.

It is much easier to stay healthy than it is to try to regain your health from an illness. If you are healthy you need to do everything you can to stay that way and continue strengthening your immune system. With a strong immune system your body will be capable on battling the germs that would otherwise make you ill.

I am pretty anal about a clean house…ask my son he’ll tell ya how annoying it is that I’m such a neat freak & clean all the time. I do pretty good on the washing hands part (now if I could teach my son the importance of washing them frequently I’d be doing good). On the other hand I am not doing so well in the healthy eating & exercise department or the stress department at the moment. It’s funny how much of a difference I really do feel when I’m eating healthy and exercising on a regular basis. And I’ve been sick off & on for awhile now. I’d like to say it doesn’t have anything to do with all the junk I’ve been eating & the lack of exercise but that’s when all the colds, etc started. Great post Dr. Daisy.

Hmmm… I’m afraid we fail miserably on the “clean front”
we do wash hands regularly but as far as keeping the tub cleaned daily… not my strong suit!
Stress does get to me… so does too much caffeine I think…
Lots of water seems to help me out quite a bit.
here is to your health and mine!
